Enlightening Conversation

My wife had the following exchange with a younger co-worker today at work.  I think it shows you that too many people voted without being properly educated.  I take full responsibility for that failure.

Co-worker:  Why do we need a new jail?

My lovely wife:  Because we are spending 2.8 million dollars a year housing inmates in other counties.  You voted the wrong way didn’t you?

Co-worker:  I have a right to vote how I want to, and I kept my taxes from going up.

My lovely wife:  No you didn’t.  Your taxes wouldn’t go up anyway.  You don’t own any property.

Co-worker:  Well, I kept my grandmother’s taxes from going up.

My lovely wife:  No you didn’t.  She is over 65, and her taxes are frozen.  Her taxes weren’t going up anyway.

Co-worker:  I have a right to choose how I vote.

My lovely wife:  You didn’t do your homework.

I am so proud of my wife for asserting herself!  Goes to show you that at least some people voted without knowing the facts.  I should’ve have done a better job of educating.
